Gate Automation Systems (prod ref: Autosys) Flairmet offers four different automated electronically controlled gates systems. These provide a wide range of options to suit most applications. Flairmet will be pleased to advise you on your specific requirements but the following provides a useful guide to help narrow down the choices.

Underground mechanism - Centaur (prod ref: Centaur)
The "Centaur" system uses an underground mechanism, and is considered
the best by nature of its simplicity, but also the most expensive of the
systems.
Points to consider:
- It is very discrete and does not detract from the elegance of the
wrought iron gates.
- The simplicity of its mechanism promotes longevity and
reliability.
- This is also the most secure of the swing gate systems as the mechanism is below
ground and so not open to casual abuse.
- The motor effectively holds the gates in position once closed, therefore, no electric locks are essential, though are recommended for better security.
- The major drawback is the initial installation cost.
Suitable for gates up to 3.5metres in length. The standard operator will open to 110°. The "Centaur" is designed to open slowly to begin with, speed up in mid travel and then slow down at the end to prevent noisy slamming into gate stops. A smaller personalised security key is provided so that, in the event of a power failure, the gate can be easily unlocked (from both inside or outside) and manually operated. The motor/gearbox is housed in die-cast aluminium and waterproofed to IP67 standard. The foundation casing is zinc plated steel. Opening to 90° takes approximately 17 seconds.
Control unit is 430mm wide, 308mm deep, 150mm high.

Above Ground Mechanism - "BAT" (prod ref: Bat)
The "BAT" ram system is a good way of converting existing swing gates to an
automatic operation.
Points to consider:
- The above ground mechanism costs less than the underground "Centaur"
system.
- The ram operator is designed to be unobtrusive though it is in full view
- Incorporates a self-locking piston so that no extra electric locks are essential though are recommended for better security.
- The very nature of the design, the motor being mounted onto the ram,
dictates the need to provide electric cables in exposed positions and so cannot
provide ultimate reliability and security from vandalism.
Models include the BAT 300 - for gates up to 3 metres wide and the BAT 400 for gates up to 5 metres wide. The self-locking piston means that no extra electric locks are required on these models. In the event of a power failure the gate can be unlocked by the use of a manual release key and can be easily opened by hand. For commercial applications the BAT double can open both ways - in this case an additional electric lock is required to secure the gates in the closed position. Opening times depend on the size of gates, typically from 13 to 24 seconds.

Articulated Arm Mechanism - "Trigon" (prod ref: Trigon)
The "Trigon" articulated arm is used for applications which cannot be
controlled by a ram without the brick pillars being recessed to give sufficient room for the ram action. The Trigon is particularly suited to large pillars where the gates are centrally hung. Requiring no brick/masonary work, this design is invaluable for architecturally important settings and to fit to existing gates. The articulated arm has been developed to provide sufficient movement by the arm being jointed in the middle, like a human arm, with the ability to bend and so reach around the brickwork allowing the gates to be operated efficiently.
Points to consider:
- Allows existing applications to be converted, generally without removing the existing gate/gates.
- The same model can be fitted to a right or left hand hinge.
- There are more moving parts to maintain
- The motor effectively holds the gates in position once closed, therefore, no electric locks are essential, though are recommended for better security.
- Does not look as neat as either the Centaur or BAT systems.
In the case of power failure a manual unlocking device allows the gate to be operated easily by hand.
400mm wide, 115mm deep, 125mm high. Opening to 90° takes upwards from 9 seconds according to the size of gate. Suitable for gates opening 5 metres inwards or 2.5 metres outward. The maximum distance from the hinge to the rear face of the brick pillar is 300mm.

Track System - "Slider" (prod ref: Slider)
The "Slider" sideways track system is used when it is not possible to
close a set of gates or gate in a conventional swing way, as for example when
cars need to park close to the gates. This system allows the gate(s) to slide
along a simple track sideways. This is a simple mechanism that works on the
rack and pinion principle.
Points to consider:
- Maximises drive space and can be used where swing opening is not
possible.
- The most secure system, as the gate is held in position on a track.
- Has to have room at the side of the drive to slide open.
- The motor effectively holds the gates in position once closed, therefore, no electric locks are essential, though are recommended for better security.

Control systems (prod ref: Controls)
All four of the above mechanisms can be made to operate in several
different ways. The control systems are very powerful and can be programmed to
control the opening and closing of gates in the best way for most individual
applications.
Remote key fob operation
The standard kit provides two remote "key fob" rings that can start one of
several different automatic sequences.
- Gates opening on demand, and staying open until the remote is used
again to close them.
- Alternatively the systems can be programmed to allow the gates to
stay open for a delayed time after which they will automatically close.
The installation caters for the possibility of a vehicle accidentally being
damaged if parked in the entrance. The automatic closure mechanism includes a safety feature whereby photo
cells detect the presence of a vehicle and return the gates to the safe
open position until the obstructing vehicle is moved.
Automatic opening
The system can be customised to improve its performance. For example, a
vehicle detecting loop of wire can be recessed into the drive, in front of the
gates so that when a departing vehicle approaches the gates, they will
automatically open. Ideal for late night guests who would otherwise need your
presence to open the gates!
Access Control
Various access control options are available including swipe card and key pad operation.
Communications and video link
Intercom and/or video equipment can also be installed to allow visitors
to communicate with the occupant of the property and to identify themselves
before remote control of the gates can be initiated from the house.

Electrical specifications (prod ref: Electrics) All electrical operators comply with UNI 8612/CE certifications.Power supply is 230V, power requirements vary from 350 to 380 Watts and absorbed current from 1.5A to 1.9A. The Centaur and BAT systems are also available in 24V for higher duty applications and suitable for battery back up if required. Suitable for multiple access control to apartment buildings etc.
