Border Collie Border Collie (prod ref: BorderColli)
Border Collie in standing position.

The Border Collie was born in the British Isles and grew to maturity in the border country of England and Scotland. There are several theories surrounding the derivation of the "Collie" portion of his name, but no doubt as to his purpose in life. Some historians claim that "colley" derives from a Gaelic word meaning something useful, some say it comes from "coalie," a word meaning black, and a third source trace the meaning from the name of a breed of Scottish sheep. But few would disagree that the Border Collie is the finest sheepherding dog, a marvelous competition dog, and a suitable if somewhat hyperactive pet for lively households.

The British Isles are home to about three dozen breeds of sheep. These animals had to be brought in from the fields periodically for shearing or driving to market or moved from one field to another as the seasons changed. Several breeds -- Smooth and Rough-coated Collies, Bearded Collies, Old English Sheepdogs, Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Shetland Sheepdogs -- developed to do these tasks, but none is as fanatically dedicated as the Border.

The Bull Dog was originally used in Great Britain for Bull-baiting. But when this was made illegal, the breed was in danger of extinction. Bill George, a breeder transformed this breed to its present form. The original features have been radically altered. It used to be an ideal pit dog, ruthlessly fighting the bull regardless of its own injuries, but the dog of today is purely for the show ring and is an engaging companion. The transformation has caused a number of health problems such as breathing difficulties. Its weight is 23-25 kgs and height is 31-36 cms

Greyhound Greyhound (prod ref: GreyHound)

by several millennia depending on which historian's theories you choose to believe. Ancient traders, or visiting noblemen, took the Greyhound away from its native land, perhaps Egypt, or Greece, to the Orient, Europe and Britain and used it there as objects of barter or as gifts.

In 1876 the popular sport of Greyhound racing began and soon it spread to Australia and the US where the Greyhound had already been established for far more than a century. The invention of the mechanical hare in 1912, added even more interest in the breed.

Alert, responsive and somewhat sensitive, Greyhounds are good with children and bond well. They need a larger

home, lots of daily outdoor exercise, and should be groomed once a week. Greyhounds are very friendly and adapt well.
