FIXING

WEATHERVANES

Construction

These hand-crafted weathervanes are fabricated from quality steel and measure approximately 90cm high (adjustable) and approximately 90cm wide (depending on which silhouette is chosen). A truly robust construction, using high gauge steel, even the silhouettes are 3mm thick. The complete weathervanes weigh between 11 and 12 kg (24 lb to 26lb) and cannot be compared with most weathervanes on the market.

Assembly and fitting

Each weathervane is supplied welded and the few parts take only a few minutes to assemble. Complete assembly and fitting instructions are supplied. The kit comes in three parts - a welded silhouette top and arrow, a fixing bracket and the "compass" cross piece with the compass points already welded in place. A pre-greased ball bearing provides a virtually maintenance free pivot action, allowing the vane to align with the wind direction.

Tools

Tools needed by the installer:

  1. Drill and M6 bit for the fixing holes
  2. 10mm spanner to lock the height adjustment in position
  3. Compass to ensure that the North point of the cross bar is correctly aligned
  4. 13mm spanner to lock the cross bar in position..

Height adjustment

Diagram showing weathervane measurments and fixing arrangements

The weathervane bracket should be fixed high enough to ensure that "compass" can rotate over the top of the wall. The bracket features a variable height adjustment of up to 320mm (12.7ins) to help ensure that clearance is adequate.

Fixing points

Standard dimensions are as shown in the adjacent diagram. Flairmet's weathervanes are of a sturdy construction and it is very important that they are fixed to suitably strong surfaces by a competent installer. The wall to which the weathervane is fixed should be able to handle substantial loads - if in doubt check with a qualified engineer. We recommend the use of expanding bolts (available on our web site) to ensure a safe installation.

The standard fixing bracket has the dimensions shown. Please contact us at Flairmet@weathervane.uk.com if you have any special requests and we will do our best to meet them. A small charge may be payable to cover additional costs. For different length fixing brackets see special fixings on our site.
